Dr Katherine Beck is an NIHR Clinical Lecturer at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN), King's College London, and an Honorary Consultant Psychiatrist in General Adult Psychiatry at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM).
She completed a PhD, funded by the Rosetrees Trust and the Royal College of Psychiatrists, investigating the neurobiology of psychosis using advanced neuroimaging techniques. Her research focuses on understanding the biological mechanisms underlying treatment-resistant schizophrenia, particularly the role of the glutamate system, using PET and MRI imaging.
Dr Beck has established a specialised clinical service for people with treatment-resistant schizophrenia and is leading research into novel treatments targeting glutamate pathways. Her work aims to improve outcomes through the development of more effective, biologically informed therapies.
She has received research awards from the Royal Society of Medicine, the British Association of Psychopharmacology, the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ECNP), the Schizophrenia International Research Society, and the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
