Dr Georgios Basdanis
Consultant Liaison Psychiatrist
Dr Georgios Basdanis is a Consultant Liaison Psychiatrist at St Thomas’ Hospital and Guy’s Cancer Centre in London. He has extensive experience of working with people with mental health difficulties in the context of chronic or severe physical health problems.
He works at Dimbleby Cancer Care, a psycho-oncology service, where he supports patients throughout their cancer diagnosis and treatment. He has detailed knowledge of the overlap between mental health and cancer care, including managing the side effects of oncology medications.
After graduating from medical school at the University of Thessaly in Greece, Dr Basdanis completed his psychiatry training at the Maudsley, Royal Bethlem and St Thomas’ hospitals in London, and the Institute of Psychiatry.
Dr Basdanis is a GMC-recognised trainer and provides education and supervision for medical students and doctors. He has a particular interest in issues around sexuality and gender. He delivers teaching on cancer psychiatry and LGBTQ+ healthcare.
