About the course

This one-day multi-professional simulation workshop is designed for hospital-based clinical staff, including medical, nursing, and healthcare assistant professionals, as well as security staff who work in adult physical health settings.

The course focuses on the assessment and management of adults presenting with both physical and mental health needs in a general hospital environment.

Participants will take part in a series of realistic, actor-led simulation scenarios that reflect the challenges of managing complex cases. Each session is followed by a structured debrief led by experienced facilitators. These reflective sessions enable participants to receive feedback, discuss decision-making, and develop both clinical and interpersonal skills in a supportive learning environment.

Course programme

This immersive workshop provides participants with the opportunity to:

  • Practise managing complex situations involving both mental and physical health presentations.

  • Explore effective communication, collaboration, and role clarity within multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Reflect on the stigma and challenges faced by patients with mental health conditions in physical healthcare settings.

Learning objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Demonstrate improved confidence, knowledge, and skills in managing adults with physical and mental health comorbidities in general healthcare environments.

  • Recognise the importance of effective communication and collaboration in delivering safe and compassionate care.

  • Understand the impact of stigma on the experience and treatment of patients with mental health conditions.
