Jan Larkin

Consultant Clinical Psychologist

Jan Larkin is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Joint Head of Psychology and Psychotherapy in Addictions at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.

Jan has worked as a Registered Mental Nurse (RMN) and Clinical Psychologist since 1987, specialising in addictions and mental health services within the NHS and third sector. She has received specialist training in Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers. Jan has contributed to several national guidelines and quality development initiatives, including the PHE Boost training, Project Adder Expert Reference Group, Mental Health Joint Action Plan Expert Reference Group, and is currently the Chair of the PSI Working Group for Alcohol Guidelines. She has been involved in research and practice development for the 5 Step Method for supporting affected others since 2005 and remains passionate about advancing the evidence base in this area.

Her interests include training and coaching in Motivational Interviewing, working with individuals using substances in mental health contexts, and learning from those with lived experience.
