About the course

This course aims to familiarise mental health and social care staff with MAPPA processes and their roles and responsibilities within them. The training is suitable if you're new to the subject or have some experience, and concludes with a Q&A session.

Mental health practitioners/trusts have a duty to cooperate with MAPPA and share information about patients that is relevant to the statutory purposes of assessing and managing risk.

Multi Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) is a framework of statutory arrangements introduced by the Criminal Justice Act (CJA) 2003 and operated by criminal justice and social care agencies. MAPPA arrangements enable these agencies to work together to reduce the risk to the public of further offending presented by sexual and violent offenders. This is done by sharing information to produce a coordinated risk management plan that will allow offenders to be effectively managed in the community.

Guidance regarding Mentally Disordered Offenders and MAPPA was updated in March 2019 and will be referenced.

CPD: equivalent to 6 CPD points.
