About the course

This two-day course covers all aspects of having health change conversations in Primary Care using motivational interviewing skills.

Primary care services are at the frontline of managing the physical health needs of individuals with Serious Mental Illness (SMI). Motivational interviewing training in primary care can be effective at improving patient outcomes and is well-suited to improving the physical health of individuals with SMI through exploring ambivalence and supporting positive behaviour change.

Closing the Gap is one of eight UKRI funded mental health research networks, with a focus on improving health and reducing inequalities in those with severe mental illness (SMI). Maudsley Learning, with collaborators from Kings College London, has been awarded a research grant from the Closing the Gap Network to develop and evaluate a simulation training programme for primary care services.

The project will deliver and evaluate a training programme to support helpful health change conversations with individuals with SMI.

The dates for the course are the following, please ensure you complete a separate booking for day 1 training and day 2 training.

  • Day 1 training: 01/11/2021 OR 11/11/2021
  • Day 2 training: 16/11/2021 OR 17/11/2021 OR 18/11/2021
