About the course

This is a Health Education England funded course for staff working in child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) which has been developed by Kings College London and the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience in partnership with Maudsley Learning. Therefore, this two day course is limited to clinicians working within CAMHS or with young adults who have prior knowledge and experience of CBT.

This course will cover
  • A brief overview of the research base in CBT for psychosis as it applies to adolescence
  • How adolescents might experience a psychotic episode e.g. the particular impact on the individual at this stage in the lifespan     
  • What are unusual experiences with distress or Psychotic Like Experiences (PLEs)? How are they different from psychosis and how do we assess?
  • To consider how the CBT model can be adapted and applied to adolescents with distressing psychotic like experiences through to psychosis.
  • To further understanding of working cognitive behaviourally with this client group through engagement, assessment, formulation  and intervention
  • Summary of effective Family interventions in Psychosis
  • Summary of Art Psychotherapy approaches with young people with psychosis
